Tracking Primates of Uganda in Style

What makes Uganda unique is that it has both wildlife and Primates. The country has some specific parks known to be home for the endangered species like the big primates. These include Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees. Thinking about a primate safari and putting it into practice is a great adventure in Africa you will not regret. Mountain gorillas are found in Bwindi and Mgahinga National parks, while Chimpanzees in Uganda are found in quite many places in Uganda. The major one is Kibale National Park. Below are the places you can track primates of Uganda in Style.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

This park is composed of 4 regions, Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Buhoma. each region has Different gorilla families. The gorillas are the same in these regions so a visitor is free to track gorillas from any of the above regions. Gorilla families are allocated on the day of tracking at the park headquarter and client on special cases like the weak one, old clients etc. can be allocated a near bye gorilla family. Bwindi has thick forest that’s why it is called the Impenetrable National Park.

Mgahinga National Park

Mgahinga National Park is part of Virunga massif, it is known for its one habituated gorilla family called Nyakagezi.  Tracking starts in the morning at 8 am with briefing before entering the park for tracking. Tracking is guided and visitors are encouraged to follow the dos and don’ts while tracking these endangered species.

Mgahinga is also known for Golden monkey Tracking. This activity can only be done here in Uganda. They look good with their Golden color; they are habituated so the clients who pay for this activity will definitely enjoy it.

Kibale National Park.

This is also located in the western Uganda, known for its highest number of chimpanzees. Kanyanchu primate walk is done here which will give a visitor a chance to spend more than 1 hour with the chimpanzees. The forest itself is an attraction it has good natural trees. Besides, Chimps, the park is a shelter to 120 of other mammals.  Tracking chimpanzees is divided into 2 sessions, the morning and afternoon session. This will depend on your Itinerary whether to purchase for morning or afternoon session.

Kyambura gorge.

It is a home to many animals and its their natural water source. It’s located in Kyambura game reserve which adjoins Queen Elizabeth national park. Among the animals found here are the habituated chimpanzees. Other types of primates include red-tailed monkey, black-and-white colobus, baboons and vervet monkeys.

Budongo forest.

This is located on the way to Murchison falls National Park, its known for its former abundancy of East African mahogany and also a home to chimpanzees. Chimpanzees can be tracked here and you will also get a chance to explore others like bird species, butterflies, 1 moth, 465 trees, and 24 mammals and etc.

Kalinzu Forest

This forest is located in western Uganda Bushenyi district. The forest is a home to Chimpanzees, butterflies, moths, reptiles, colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, birds and etc. Among the activities here include, Chimpanzee Tracking, Forest Walks, Research, Birding, Butterfly Identification and etc.

Ngamba Island.

This is located on Lake Victoria and it’s known to be a home to orphaned chimpanzees rescued from different places. The place can be accessed by boat from water front Entebbe. The Island is small for chimps, it has no enough food for the primates daily. So, the chimps are given fruits and vegetables to add on the food they get from the forest.

It is done in sessions and here that’s when visitors gather and enjoy these primates while they are being fed.  There is accommodation at the Island. For the clients who wants to spend a night there and explore more the Island can offer, no worry. There is also alternative accommodation in Entebbe town like Protea by Marriot, Imperial resort beach hotel, Boma Entebbe and etc.
