One of the rangers of Virunga National Park Ranger confirmed as Jules Kombi Kambale, has been killed while defending the park. Kamba, aged 30 was killed on 1st September 2016, during an attack by the poachers. Jules was on a routine patrol within the Virunga National Park when the attack that claimed his life occurred.
According to the Virunga National Park Director, Emmanuel de Merode, “Kambale was deeply committed to his work protecting the park and a well loved ranger. His young life has been tragically cut short in service to Virunga National Park and we are in deep mourning”.
Over the past years, Virunga National Park, Africa’s oldest national park has lost over 150 rangers. These rangers work hard in fighting poaching within Eastern Congo, a region characterized with off and on conflicts.
